RS Computer Shoe Redux

In order to know where you are going, you must know from where you came. The RS Computer Shoe was the first of what is known today as a wearable sports product. As we pursued integration of digital technology in modern performance footwear, we went back to our roots by creating a redux version of the RS Computer Shoe. We made sure to bake some fun into the experience with the RS Computer Shoe Game, a free App Store download.

8 bit Fun

The RS Computer Shoe Redux was connected via Bluetooth to an app. The app allowed you to track your running activity, just like the original. But that’s not all. It also recalled the spirit of the 80s, when computer games first came to the fore. To help celebrate Puma’s connection to personal computing of the time, we developed an 8-bit game inside the RS Computer Shoe app. Download from the App Store. It’s free!

Project Profile

What is it?

The re-creation a Puma legacy product from the 80s which combined a computer with a running shoe. Developed as a limited edition offering that fuelled the marketing of the modern RS Sportstyle shoe series.

Why is it innovative?

In a sense it was not a new innovation because we recreated something that already existed. But it was innovative in comparison to similar product ideas as it went back in time and reclaimed a pioneering moment for Puma.

What were the biggest challenges?

Starting from almost no documented information and creating a complete product experience. Converting the original functionality with modern technology.

What was your role?

Project Owner, Strategy Lead, Creative Director, Chief Evangelist

After shaping the vision I lead a team of designers, engineers and software developers toward realization.

Why was it successful?

The product sold out in hours. It got worldwide attention. It is a new mainstay in the Puma archive.
